Number 8 Tim Atchison was raised in Copperas Cove, Texas and attended the local high school like fellow Baylor Bears teammate Robert Griffin.
In high school, Tim Atchison was a 3-star ranked player by Rivals.com. He made 147 tackles, 6 interceptions, three blocked kicks, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble as a senior. This led to his ranking as the U.S.'s 42 best safety. The Copperas Cove High School football team did well with Tim Atchison and ended 9th in the state of Texas.
Tim Atchsion redshirted in 2006 and went on to play in every game in 2007. He recorded seven tackles (six of which were solo) and a pass breakup. In 2008, Tim Atchison competed in 11 of 12 games. This included three starts. He ended the season by making 31 tackles (21 solo and 10 assisted).
