Sam Sledge was born on January 21, 1987 to two Baylor grads. His dad even played for the Baylor Bears football team for four years and they made sure to start Sam Sledge on the same path.
Sam Sledge grew up in Midland, Texas and graduated from Lee High School. In football, Sam Sledge was a 3-year letter winnter and was also recognized with first-team all-district honors two consecutive times. On the track team, Sam Sledge was a district discus champion. And in the classroom, he was a National Honor Society member and 4-year academic letterwinner.
Like his parents, Sam Sledge headed off to Baylor and was a walk-on to the Baylor Bears football team. He redshirted in 2005, played in 7 snaps in 2006 and earned his first letter. In 2007, Sam Sledge dressed for every game and played in 88 snaps. In 2008 he played all 12 games as a back-up tackle and ended the season with 9 tackles.
