Dominique Criss was born on October 13, 1987 and grew up in Arlington, Texas. In high school at Bowie, he was coached by his father, Anthony Criss. This connection probably helped his performance. Dominique Criss was rated as a top 50 prep cornerbacks by Scout.com when considering all in the U.S. He made 70 tackles, 8 pass break ups and one interception during 2005. As a senior, he also rushed 107 times and was first on the time with 423 yards and 8 touchdowns to his name.
In 2006, Dominique Criss chose to redshirt but was still an MVP on the scout team. In 2007, Dominque Criss worked his way up to playing time. He made 10 tackles over the course of participating in 11 games. He was also a second team Academic Big 12 pick
In 2008, Dominique Criss played five games at the positions of special teams and reserve defensive back. He was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
